We are in the midst of a global outbreak of corpulence. Our increasingly sedentary lives, combined with an influx of calories, have one inevitable consequence – rising obesity.
In “Childhood Obesity: The health issue” by Deckelbaum and Williams they detail the mortifying statistic of 22 million obese children globally who are younger than 5 years of age. They go on to recommend monitoring and reductions of food intake and more physical activity.
Sobering, off course it is, because they then outline how this early childhood epidemic is translated into greater adult health risks. In their minds, prevention of obesity should be a high priority social objective.
Teachers can contribute in cutting this trend off, by teaching on improved dietary regimes and including greater esposure to physical exercise in children’s activities.
Learn to play giant games for better living
For early childhood, this means taking part in the diverse range of activities that can be facilitated by children’s play mats. It doesn’t really matter what it is, but make it physical , make it active and get them moving.
Kid’s play mats can be found in a wide variety of genre that encourage their healthy, early childhood development. As aid to teaching literacy, numeracy, cultural awareness, local knowledge and co-ordination skills, they make teaching easy and fun.
With these types of games and play mats often you can be working on multiple facets of children’s development all at the same time.
Up from play mats, giant educational games are giant, metre by metre versions of the table top versions, but instead of playing seated, you are immersed within an “Alice in Wonderland” giant tea party scenario.
As a teacher you’ll get how important exercise in it’s many forms is. If you’re a teacher, you’ll maybe have some ideas on educational tools you’ve always wanted, but could never have. Now it’s easy to take you’re ideas and for a very low cost make children’s educational games or play mats that meet your very specific need.
