One of the things we take for granted in this world is driving a car.  It has become routine and for some people a mindless activity.  You see people talking on the phone, doing makeup, reading, etc. while driving.

But if your put some thought into it, you will realize that your life is on the line everytime you step into a car.Whoever is at fault isn’t the focal point of this article, but accidents do happen.

One of the ways accidents are caused is through brake failure.Your brakes is definitely one of the parts of your vehicle that is very important.Unfortunately, if it’s out of sight it is out of mind.  I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.

Your brakes qualifies definitely as being out of sight. But it is the one car part that regular maintenance is a must.  Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.  After all, your life and maybe even your family’s safety depends upon it.

With that in essence being the case, maintaining your breaks can be quite easy. You can do one of two things, you can take it to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to maintain it yourself.

Either way, the brake fluid level and the brake pad conditions are the two main things to look at.If you are vigilant in keeping these two points maintained, your brakes will be safe.

When you do perform a brake fluid check, all you have to do is find the fluid reservoir level. It is more often than not marked with a ‘min’ line and a ‘max line’.  Make sure it isn’t below the ‘min’ line and you should have no problems.

Also make sure the brake fluid is clear or yellow in color. If it isn’t, you will have to perform a flushing of the brakes and put in new fluid.

Brake fluids are easy maintenance. The difficult part is maintaining your brake pads.  For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.

Usually the brake pads tell you they need to be replaced when you hear some screeching sounds when you are braking.

If so, have them checked and replaced as soon as possible. Brake pads that are worn is hard to control or stop.

With your safety and your passenger’s safety directly effected, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if you have to, go and get your brakes fixed.

Following these 2 maintenance steps will keep your car safe for every driving occasion.
