A two wheel vehicle that is powered is called a motorcycle. Motorcycles are categorized under three categories. They are street, off-road and dual purpose motorcycles. The motorcycles designed for transportation are street bikes. Examples of street bikes are scooters, sport bikes, mopeds and cruisers. Motorcycles made specifically with the intent of racing are called off-road motorcycles. These are, for instance, involved in dirt-oriented racing. These motorcycles are not lawfully permitted to be used for transportation. There are then the dual purpose motorcycles. These are used for transportation as well as racing.
Scooters are smaller in size as compared to the street bikes. They are designed for relatively smooth and even terrain. But scooters have undergone substantial modifications and redesigning. There are now tougher scooters, some of them with engine displacement of more than 250cc. There is the motor-scooter as well as the maxi-scooter now on the roads. The newer scooters are redesigned to take on touch road and driving conditions unlike the earlier models.
Motorcycles and scooters have become attractive as means of transport for a number of reasons. They are more fuel efficient than other vehicles. This makes it more attractive when fuel prices are increasing and is expected to steadily become more costly. The fuel economy of motorcycles also comes from its lower mass. A variety of modifications are made in scooters to increase its power and capability to navigate over rough terrains. Kent Super Scooter is built almost as a bike. It is made from solid steel.
Traffic congestion and traffic jams have become part of the normal traffic hazards of most cities. Navigating through the roads and maneuvering through the traffic is a nightmare. Motorcycles with its easy maneuverability weaving through the vehicles make them ideal for congested roads. Motorcycle also requires less space to park. This is a boon at a time when parking space itself is limited and is difficult to find. The parking fees are becoming prohibitively costly. In some places, motorcycles have to pay very less parking fees or they are exempted. In many cities that charge such fees as congestion charge when entering certain areas, motorcycles are exempted from the payment of such fees. Motorcyclists have to pay lesser toll charges in highways and river crossings. The road and motor vehicle taxes that motorcyclists have to pay are lower than those prescribed for other vehicles.
