The top ten contenders for sports personality of the year have been named. The list features various olympic heroes, footballers, rugby players and many more. The event is being held in the UK and is dedicated to English sports stars. It is a great opportunity for the world to see their achievements. Amoungst the Olympic heroes, Lewis Hamilton also won the World F1 title this year which was an incredible achievement for the young British man. It is his second year in a row and Lewis Hamilton has suprised the world by winning this year.

Andy Murray, Lewis Hamilton, Joe Calzaghe and Ben Ainslie are just a few of the names that have been thrown into the hat for the coveted award. These celebrities will compete for the public vote in the UK on the 14th December. The public will be able to vote for their favorite sports personality by phone on BBC one. The details for the sports personalities will be broadcast on the night so everyone can vote for their favourite stars. The live event will be held at Liverpool’s Echo Arena for the first time and it is a sell-out with around nine thousand people attending, making it the biggest Sports personality event ever. Liverpool has recently just won the award for the most cultured European city last year and naturally the event will be held in the winning city.

The shortlist was comprised by 28 different sports editors from national and regional newspapers. There are so many worthy candidates that could win the award it is definitely a tough call. Britain’s performance at the Olympics was truly unique and I was so surprised that we managed to win so many medals! America gave another incredible performance in the Olympics this year which was also amazing to see.
