1. Every ball player should write down a number of schools that they would like to extend their playing career.Get out there and search for coaches and colleges on the internet and target the school accordingly. You not only can get some great advice, but also be able to view some resources and pick up some baseball hitting tips.
2. Contact the school you are interested in and email or phone the coach to let them know you’re interested. Baseball Hitting Videos (more on this later) are a great tool to have, including some text written up or testimonials from coaches or scouts. There are sites out there already that can highlight your talents on a site… usually for a monthly fee. Copy your video on a disc and send it to a coach. Ask coaches for some tips on your skills….. who knows, they have some baseball hitting tips to pass along.
3. It can be difficult for a coach to come see you play, you may only get one chance. You may not always have your best game even if they do come to one of your games! Be proactive, and have a friend or relative take some baseball hitting videos of you. Be sure and keep this short. Be light on the footage… Give them just about 10 minutes of video. If you’re good, and they see something in you, they’ll make the time to come out and see you play, maybe even with a baseball scholarship in hand.
4. When you have sent your video and after the coach can visit with you, make sure to reach out to him again and let him know your interest level! Even if they send you multiple letters, and calls all the time, don’t stop. Attend a clinic run by the college you are interested in and talk to a few players. Usually, the coaches will have their players help out with the camps. Also, even if they show a little interest, and maybe they don’t have any scholarships available, keep following up. This is what happened to me… the school I ended up playing at, UAB, had a scholarship open up a couple of months prior to the season.
Also, be sure to attend local baseball clinics and MLB tryouts… it can provide some great exposure to you, as well as pick some tips from other players and network with coaches and scouts.
